My Aboriginal roots originate from Ceduna, from my grandmother and I was born in Boandik country. Ceduna tribes include Wirangu, Mirning, Kokatha and Pitjantjatjara tribes. I now know that my language group is Wirangu, and that my grandmother may have also been from the Kokatha tribe. I am very passionate about my cultural heritage. I grew up with many stories around using natural resources and remedies where possible. some stories were around bush medicine and other stories related to the land, animals and spirits. I love painting with bright colours and blending colours together to create different kinds of shades, gradients and patterns within a painting, but it depends on what I feel like painting at the time.- Bianka

The story behind Boandik Country:
Boandik Country represents the Limestone Coast area in South Australia where there are three joining water sources in the middle of the piece which are the Blue Lake, Browns Lake and Valley Lake. Meeting places represent families living on country, with people and elder symbols throughout the piece to represent people going about their business and community. Emu and Kangaroo tracks represent the many emu and kangaroo that we see in Mount Gambier.
