The Story Behind Gan:

My Self-Determination Series is about the power of self determination and inner change and how we control our selves.

Gan means 'Now' in my grandmothers language. Now tells the story of being ready to make changes to better ourselves and situations now. It highlights the importance being present, now, to be able to move forward.

Aboriginal Artist

Bianka Carson

My Aboriginal roots originate from Ceduna, from my grandmother and I was born in Boandik country.  Ceduna tribes include Wirangu, Mirning, Kokatha and Pitjantjatjara tribes. I now know that my language group is Wirangu, and that my grandmother may have also been from the Kokatha tribe. I am very passionate about my cultural heritage. I grew up with many stories around using natural resources and remedies where possible. some stories were around bush medicine and other stories related to the land, animals and spirits. I love painting with bright colours and blending colours together to create different kinds of shades, gradients and patterns within a painting, but it depends on what I feel like painting at the time.- Bianka
